Discovering handiskiing: how and for whom?
For several years, skiing has become truly accessible to all. Handiski lessons are tailor-made, adapted to the needs and desires of each individual. Too often, the collective mind thinks that handiski is synonymous with disability. You should know that this is not the case.
Handiskiing is open to people in wheelchairs, the visually impaired, people with physical problems that do not allow them to “take risks” (example: hyperlaxity), or people who cannot ski (example: elderly people). Everyone can have the pleasure of sliding and enjoying the mountain from all angles thanks to handiskiing.
Standing skiing
Standing skiing is suitable for anyone who can stand on one or two legs. Whether you are visually impaired, hard of hearing, amputee, hemiplegic, it is possible to discover or rediscover the sensations of skiing. You can be equipped with an exoskeleton and learn to ski or improve your technique with an instructor. Oxygen Ski & Snowboard School offers this type of service. For the visually impaired, a headset connected to a radio will be provided so that your instructor can guide you.
Sit skiing
For people in wheelchairs or who have difficulty coordinating their lower limbs, sit-skiing is the solution that allows you to ski independently. Ski chairs are either uniski or dualski depending on your comfort, and you will have “stabilos” in your hands. A stabilo is an assembly of 3 parts that extend the arm to have a sliding support on the snow, which provides a point of balance.
Dualski piloted
It is intended for people who are partially or totally dependent. It consists of a comfort seat, a chassis and a steering bar. It offers the sensation of skiing almost alone, the skier can participate more or less actively in steering. As an accompanying person, you can be trained to become the pilot.
Tandem skiing
Tandem skiing makes skiing accessible to everyone, shared pleasure between the pilot and the skier, and access to the mountain to live a unique experience. Tandem skiing is for all those who cannot or do not wish to ski. Comfortably installed in a bucket seat, a pilot will guide you on the slopes and even off the slopes.
